Prices & Specification
Pros

Spacious and airy; good engine choices; well equipped.

Cons

Unexciting handling; pretty uninspiring to look at.

The 3008 is Peugeot’s entry into the crossover market, and it is a pretty impressive effort. The Peugeot 3008 is a practical car, and a nice place to be whilst travelling. The engines on offer are all very good as well. On the down side the Peugeot 3008’s steering is too light, which makes it not much fun to drive, and it’s hardly going to win any beauty contests. But, that said, the 3008 is still a very good car.

Performance4/5

The Peugeot 3008 performance is good with the decent range of engines on offer, which all provide the pace and power you need. The top dog of these engines is probably the 1.6THP which does 0-62mph in a very impressive 8.9 seconds and produces 148bhp. There is a lower power petrol engine which puts out a perfectly adequate 120bhp; the only drawback to this engine is it comes with a rather clunky 5 speed manual gearbox, unlike the rest of the engines. On the diesel front the 1.6HDi wins on the economy battle, being the most fuel efficient of the Peugeot 3008 engines doing 58mpg, but it does feel slightly sluggish. The 2.0HDi does not suffer from the same problem, with plenty of grunt all the way through the gears and will still get you 50mpg. There is also a hybrid diesel engine available which looks to be a rather good bit of kit.

Handling3.5/5

To get the best from the Peugeot 3008’s handling it is worth investing in the Dynamic Roll Control system as this reduces body roll in corners to a minimum and makes the car feel a lot smaller than it actually is in the corners. Without this system the Peugeot 3008’s handling isn’t awful but there is a notable increase of leaning in corners. The suspension makes the ride very smooth, meaning the 3008 is a very pleasant place to be on long journeys. The only downside is it’s just a bit boring to drive, the light steering reducing thrills to a minimum.

Exterior3/5

With the 3008, Peugeot continue with their tried and tested styling; you get that massive grille and the flared wheel arches, it’s all pretty safe and uninspiring. The only real character comes from the LED daytime running lights, and on the Hybrid a black spoiler. The Peugeot 3008 styling means it’s not an exciting car to look at, but this class of car rarely are.

Interior4/5

The Peugeot 3008’s interior feels incredibly roomy, the high roof giving everyone in the car plenty of headroom, and the seats in the back are big enough to fit 3 adults with relative ease. The panoramic windshield makes it feel very airy as well, and if you upgrade to an Exclusive model you get a glass roof which heightens this feeling. The Peugeot 3008 seats are comfortable but lack a bit of support. The boot is a very clever space, with a split tailgate and a three stage floor inside what is a well-proportioned boot. The dash is your standard Peugeot affair with just the odd classy touch such as some sprinkling of chrome and a large and rather impressive looking centre console.

Equipment4/5

The three trims that are on offer with the Peugeot 3008 are the Active, Sport and the Exclusive, and all of them are well equipped. Even with your most basic Active package you get a CD player, air conditioning, electric front windows, front fog lights, and remote central locking. Sport models get you that all important dynamic roll control as well as getting you 17” alloys, cruise control and rear parking sensors. The top of the range Exclusive trim gets you rain sensitive windscreen wipers, automatic lights, climate control, chrome trim, and the really very good glass roof.

Safety4/5

Peugeot have a very good reputation for safety and the 3008 will only enhance this reputation, scoring a maximum 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. 6 airbags, Isofix child seat mountings and electronic stability control comes as standard on all models.

Buying & Owning4/5

The Peugeot 3008 is competitively priced considering how much car you get for your money. It also won’t break the bank when filling up at the pumps with all the engines on offer proving very economical. The only slight stain on the Peugeot 3008’s impressive record is Peugeot’s rather poor reliability record, but there have been no specific complaints about this car, so hopefully it will buck the trend.
